Respectful
In the household in which I was raised, the themes were pretty simple. 'Work hard. Don't quit. Be appreciative, be thankful, be grateful, be respectful. Also, never whine, never complain. And always, for crying out loud, keep a sense of humor'.
I know that a prime minister of Canada needs to be deeply respectful of the other levels of government — whether it be municipal, provincial, or even nation-to-nation relationships with aboriginal governments.
Parenting is not giving your child everything they want. Parenting is not being your child's friend. Parenting is about preparing your child to be a useful and respectful person in society.
Synergy is what happens when one plus one equals ten or a hundred or even a thousand! It's the profound result when two or more respectful human beings determine to go beyond their preconceived ideas to meet a great challenge.
We don't need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.
